Cecilie Manz

Danish designer Cecilie Manz (b. 1972) is widely known both in Denmark and internationally for her refined design language and her declared love for quality.

After graduating from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts - The School of Design in 1997, Cecilie Manz founded her own Copenhagen-based studio in 1998. Here, Manz designs industrially manufactured products, experimental prototypes as well as sculptural one-offs.

Over the years, Cecilie Manz has worked with Fritz Hansen, Bang & Olufsen, Fredericia Furniture, 1616 Arita and Hermès creating lasting design pieces from loudspeakers and dining chairs to textiles and tableware.

Her series of throws for Elvang called Écru is the essence of her meticulous and uncompromising approach to design.

Cecilie Manz’s sense of combining the Scandinavian tradition of simplicity with a modern, international expression has earned her several awards, including the Finn Juhl Architecture Prize in 2007 and the Thorvald Bindesbøll Medal in 2011. Her designs can also be found in the permanent collections of prestigious institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and Design Museum Denmark.
